Standards of Practice, Failure to Meet6/20/20208/9/2023Not RequiredUndertakingDr. Sawwan was charged with unprofessional conduct in relation to his management of the labour and delivery of a patient in September 2017. The charge alleged that either he failed to maintain the standards of practice of the profession in a number of respects or that he failed to exercise due diligence to ensure appropriate and timely management of the labour and delivery, and also alleged a failure to appropriately communicate with the patient. The matter was resolved through post-charge alternative dispute resolution (ADR). The charge has not been admitted or proven at a hearing. Dr. Sawwan signed an undertaking agreeing to attend a meeting with the Registrar or his designate to discuss his reflections of what went wrong in the case and how he will mitigate against this in future; to successfully complete the ALARM course, a course on fetal surveillance, and courses on team-focused and patient-focused communication; and to pay costs. Provided that he completes those tasks within the specified timelines, the College will not proceed further with the charge against him. UPDATE: As of February 9, 2024, Dr. Sawwan has complied with the terms of his undertaking. As such, the College will not proceed further with the charge against him. Charges178207
